I've always been quite intrigued by Brasil. The Amazon, the surf, the capoeira, the fake breasts, and the list goes on. The major attractions in Brasil though were definitely to spend some time in the jungle, do as much of the Amazon river on a boat as time would permit and surf my ass off along the coast, making my way down to Florionopolis. Tav and I started toying with the idea of buying a campervan to do this, but while writing this we still hadn't organised this...only time will tell....

florianopolis, or rather ilha catarina

After leaving Ilha do Mel on the 1pm boat, on 15th of October, I hoped I'd make it into Florianopolis for sunset. But, after a few delays in connecting buses I only arrived closer to 10pm. It was also much colder than I expected eventhough it really isn't that far from Ilha do Mel. I got a bus to Barra da Lagoa, which is the area of the island so many people had told me more >>

trindade and ilha do mel - tranquility

When morning came on the 8th of October on Ilha Grande, I woke up to what looked like a typhoon outside. I contemplated staying on the island one more day to sit out the storm, but then figured it would be best to just use a crappy day like that for travelling. Not such a good idea. By the time I had walked all the way along the beach to the docks, I was soaked. I got onto the ferry and within 40 minutes I had arrived at Anger dos Reis, and the storm was still more >>

ilha grande and not so much chill time

After the last party in Rio, I decided I really need to get some quiet time and on Monday the 5th of October I headed out to Ilha Grande, home of what is supposedly one of the top 10 most beautiful beaches in the world, Lopes Mendes, and there's surf! more >>

rio - the city where pedro never sleeps

When Tav and I rolled into Rio on the 28th of September I knew we were going to party a bit, after all it's a city known for good parties, but what I didn't know was that Rio was a candidate city for the Olympics, and the partying after the announcement and for a few days after was more than I could more >>

itacare - paradisiacal beaches

We left Salvador at 11pm on Monday the 21st of September and it took us roughly 8 hours to get to Iticare - first stopping in Ilheus and then getting a crappier bus onwards. First impressions of Itacare was that it was exactly the sort of place I wanted to chill out in for a good few days of just surfing and hammock more >>

salvador - a cultural capital

On Saturday the 19th of September, Anita, Tav and I arrived in Salvador. The main purpose of Tav and I stopping there was to break up the trip down to Itacare. Anita hadn't decided yet if she'd be coming with us to Itacare or if she'd visit Lencois National Park before more >>

olinda    (submitted on 21 September 2009 17:10)

On the 17th of September after a 6 or so hour bus ride we arrived in a town called Olinda and checked into the Albergue Olinda. Coincidentally, Olinda is my mom's name and her birthday is on the 18th of September. So I got to give her a birthday call on her birthday from a town with her more >>

praia da pipa - surfing with dolphins

The bus journey down to Natal from Fortaleza was pretty uneventful - I slept for most of the 9 hours because I was exhausted from my sleepless night at the airport. It's been an awesome 5 days in Praia da Pipa. As we approached the coast on the left side of the road I could see some breaking waves that looked absolutely crap and I started getting a bit pessimistic about what the surf at Pipa would be more >>

flying over the jungle    (submitted on 17 September 2009 20:15)

Friday the 11th of September, 911, and I'm sat in a plane in Belem airport waiting for my connecting flight to Fortaleza. Funny enough, Tav has just walked onto the plane, because he decided to fly to Fortaleza too. I'm exhausted. Yesterday I took the last bus out to the airport at about 6pm, and then waited there f or my 7am flight. I wouldn't have been able to catch a bus there this morning as the buses don't run early enough, and a taxi would have cost me a small more >>

leaving santarem the quick way    (submitted on 10 September 2009 10:20)

This morning, the 10th of September, I woke up to some sootheing tickles running up my leg. Initially I thought maybe one of the cleaning ladies here had found my current extremely shaggy-haired, bearded look irresistable but I was wrong, it was a giant cockroach, making it´s way up my more >>
